Writing from the Iphone

This is my first post from my Iphone to my blog. As drafts as well as adding pictures works fine – I guess this will not be my last post.

This post is made possible by the new Apple 2.0 iphone software in combination with the WordPress application which is downloadable from the itunes app store from your phone running 2.0 and higher. It is also possible to directly send pictures taken from the iphone to the blog which is a neat feature. I assume this will not be the end of applications in this direction from the iphone.

Moleskin Hacks

mymoleskinehack.pngIn case you are still using the classic Moleskin Notepad or any of its variants you can find useful information of how to hack on of those nice little companions.

I just switched to the iphone, ipod, ical alternative but still miss the scribbling and the more haptic approach. I guess as soon as I will be more dedicated to more paperwork again I might go back to my moleskin. Here you can find good hints.

NFT – A good alternative

Not for tourists

During my latest visit to the US I did not have my LP Guidebook with me, which was actually a good thing and made me look around for alternatives. The one I used during most of the trip was not very good and maybe I will loose some more words about it but not here and now. So basically I looked around in US bookshops and finally found the NFT – Not for Tourists Guidebook for New York – Manhattan and Queens. Sounds a little bit arrogant or farfetched to not consider myself as a tourist in New York, however I visited many times (the 4th time now) and I have already done most of the touristy stuff. Due to my travel experience I can also say that I no longer like to tick of points on a agenda and rather wander around meet people and try to dig deeper into the hearts of places.

NYC MapHowever what I do not want to miss on these ventures are maps and little knowledge of the place just to give one some bearing of the location and the environment. Therefore one of my major tools is a good  and detailed map.As a matter of fact the NFT Guide, I bought the Manhattan and the Queens Edition just provided me with these. The Guidebooks come in a very handy format, one can easily put them into the sidepocket of a jacket or maybe even in the backpocket of your trousers. The book covers in detail all relevant regions with at least 3 maps for a rather smal section on a double page i.a. on the left side the map on the right side addresses of locations categorized. Therefore it makes it easy to quickly find the next bank, restaurant or visit a famous site where you also might be able to pick up additional information. If you want to relocate just tunr the page and all travel/transportation details will be provided on the right side. I find this much more interesting than other guidebooks who exactly outline the way to travel and more or less tell you what to do and where to eat … Well LP gives you choices but I end up too often in the same place with fellow LP travellers. This guide though is not a guidebook for first time visitors and in many cases might also just be useful when having a guidebook along which gives you more information about the places you just visit. For me part of the traveling is also discovery and research … So I will try to use more of this kind of guidebooks for further trips. The following cities are available:

  • Atlanta
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • New York
  • Los Angeles (this one probably won’t fit into your back pocket)
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Washington D.C
  • Philadelphia

What is even better most guides are completely free and you can download everything from the website. Really worth checking out .. So if you visit those cities check it out.
